To continue using military airfields near the border for strikes against Ukraine, Russia has installed new air defense systems and is building hangars for aircraft.

This is evidenced by satellite images that Radio Liberty published.

New positions for S-300/S-400 air defense systems have appeared at the Millerovo air base in the Rostov region. They were not there last October.

Protective hangars are also being built on the site of open aircraft parking lots.

Hangar construction was also observed at the Belbek air base in occupied Crimea and the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield in the Krasnodar region.

Last fall, after Ukraine received ATACMS missiles from the United States with a range of up to 300 kilometers, Russia relocated some of its military aircraft from airfields within their reach.

At the same time, it continued to strike Ukraine with Shahed/Geran drones, and Ukraine, for its part, attacked these airbases several times with drones.

Back in May, it was reported that the Russians had started building airfield hangars to protect aircraft from attack drones and missiles with cluster warheads.

The newly constructed airfields with new hangars should protect aircraft from attack drones and ATACMS ballistic missile submunitions.

The use of hangars will also prevent satellites and other optical detection devices from knowing whether the hangar is empty or an aircraft is parked there.

Previously, shelters covered with profiled sheets have been installed in Russia to protect aircraft.

However, using profiled sheets to create hangars does not provide the necessary protection against debris, as they are not very thick.
