Russia has launched unidentified satellites into space in the interests of its Ministry of Defense.

This is stated in the Ministry’s official report.

The Aerospace Forces launched a Soyuz-2.1v rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, in the north of the aggressor country.

The Plesetsk Cosmodrome, or 1st State Test Cosmodrome, is used by the Russians for both space rocket launches and military exercises.

In October 2024, Russia conducted a strategic nuclear forces exercise with the launch of the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Sarmat missile had previously been tested unsuccessfully at this launch site, causing it to explode and damage the launch pad. OSINTers suggest that the explosion occurred on September 19 or 20, 2024.

The explosion created a giant crater almost 62 meters wide, in which elements of the launch shaft are visible.

It is worth noting that, considering this incident, Russia has managed to carry out only one successful launch of the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental rocket since the missile was launched on April 5-20, 2022.

Along with other Russian cosmodromes, it is also used to launch vehicles into space at low orbital altitudes for various purposes.

Since it is subordinated to the Russian Ministry of Defense, most launches are in its interest. However, at one time, joint projects with the European Space Agency existed.

There is minimal information about today’s launch, and the report limited itself to the phrase a light-class Soyuz-2.1v launch vehicle with spacecraft was launched in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Prior to this, various military satellites were launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, such as Bars-M and Lotus-S1 radio reconnaissance satellites, Glonass global positioning systems, and others.
