Reuters: US to provide Ukraine with $1.2 billion military aid package

The Biden administration will announce in the coming days its final Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative package worth about $1.2 billion.

Reuters reports this with reference to sources familiar with the matter.

This package will be provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

Under USAI, military equipment is procured from the defense industry or partners, rather than drawn from American stocks.

This package, which will be the last one from the Biden administration under USAI, will be financed from the remaining funds reserved for the purchase of new weapons for Ukraine.

The package includes air defense interceptors and artillery munitions, according to a U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

However, the exact content of the aid will be revealed when the package is officially announced.

Arm deliveries

Militarnyi previously reported that the US Presidential Administration had surged the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

A senior U.S. administration official told CNN that the White House was directing resources to deliver the previously promised weapons to Kyiv before President Joe Biden would leave office.

The Pentagon is now conducting sealifts and airlifts to meet the delivery deadline.

It is noted that those efforts were in sharp contrast to the policy of the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump, who in an interview with Time magazine had sharply criticized the recent US decision to allow Ukraine to use US weapons to strike at Russian territory.

In the latest show of support for Ukraine, the Biden administration announced a $500 million military aid package on December 12. This tranche includes a wide range of ammunition and military equipment from U.S. Army stockpiles.
