Protector UGV Begins Supporting Front-Line Logistics

Protector unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), manufactured by Ukrainian Armor, have begun supporting logistics missions on the front line.

The company announced the development on its social media channels.

In particular, personnel from the 429th Unmanned Systems Brigade ‘Achilles’ are using the domestically produced Protector UGV to transport supplies to the most hazardous sectors of the front line.

In a single sortie, the Protector can transport nearly one metric ton of cargo – including food supplies, ammunition, and equipment – which, according to military personnel, is sufficient to sustain a unit’s operational needs for one week.

The company also reported that during one operation, the UGV sustained shrapnel damage from an enemy FPV drone. Despite the damage, it remained operational, continued its mission, and successfully delivered the cargo to the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

Following a subsequent logistics mission to deliver essential equipment to servicemembers, the Protector detonated a landmine while returning from the objective. The resulting damage prevented recovery of the vehicle.

“Ukrainian Armor’s Protector UGV is seeing increasingly widespread operational use on the front line as a key element of military logistics. The platform enables the delivery of cargo into high-threat environments, minimizing risks to personnel while ensuring frontline units receive the supplies and equipment necessary to sustain operations,” the manufacturer said.

In February, CEO Vladyslav Belbas announced that the company had signed a major framework agreement with the Defense Procurement Agency (DPA) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the supply of Protector unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).

Protector UGV Specifications

The Protector has a payload capacity of up to 700 kg. This enables the platform to transport substantial quantities of ammunition or heavy equipment in a single mission, or to evacuate up to three casualties on stretchers.

The Protector UGV has an overall length of 5,070 mm, a width of 1,900 mm, and a height of 1,090 mm. Mobility is provided by a 190 hp diesel engine.

The UGV is capable of speeds ranging from 50 to 90 km/h, depending on terrain and road conditions.

The vehicle is remotely operated via secure communications links with an effective control range of up to 12 km. This stand-off distance allows the operator to remain under cover in a secure location while maintaining full control of the vehicle.
