The Governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, reported that the downed police helicopter, which was ensuring the safety of personnel involved in the manual destruction of coca crops, was attacked by a drone.
Authorities have blamed the attack on the 36th Front of the Estado Mayor Central, a group linked to the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Colombian security forces continue operations in the region to investigate the circumstances of the crash and apprehend those responsible.
