Poland will receive the first Abrams M1A1 already in April

Poland will receive the first Abrams M1A1 tanks already in April this year.

Mariusz Błaszczak, Polish Defense Minister, announced this on Twitter.

He noted that the equipment is currently being prepared to be shipped.

“We are strengthening the armored fist of the Polish military, we are strengthening the Polish Armed Forces to realistically and effectively deter the aggressor,” Mariusz Błaszczak wrote.

Last December, the USA approved the sale of 116 Abrams M1A1 tanks, support vehicles, and ammunition to Poland.

The transaction amount is $3.75 billion, but the price might still decrease.

The deal covers the sale of 116 M1A1 tanks, 12 M88A2 armored recovery vehicles, 8 M1110 Joint Assault Bridge Systems, 6 M577A3 Command Post Carriers, 26 M1152A1 HMMWVs, and 26 JLTV vehicles.

In addition to the vehicles, 116 12.7 mm M2 machine guns, 232 7.62 mm M240 machine guns, and 6 spare AGT1500 turboshaft engines will be delivered.

Deliveries could start as early as 2023.

Poland is buying those tanks to replace its own T-72M/M1/M1P tanks and PT-91 Twardy tanks transferred to Ukraine.

Also, on April 5, 2022, Mariusz Błaszczak, Polish Minister of National Defense, signed a contract to purchase 250 M1A2 Abrams SEP V3 tanks.

They are planned to be produced by the end of 2024, and their delivery to Poland will start in early 2025.

The military of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade named after Tadeusz Kościuszko is already training to use the Abrams tanks.

After a series of simulator trainings, the first crews performed firing tasks in defense and offense.
