On July 19, 2023, the United States allocated a new package of military assistance to Ukraine for $1.3 billion.
This is stated on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense.
In particular, the country will send four NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.
They noted that the new package of assistance will include, in addition to anti-aircraft missile systems, ammunition for them.
What’s in the new Aid Package:
This package also includes training for the Ukrainian military and maintenance.
It is worth noting that 152mm artillery rounds are designed for Soviet-type systems.
For example, the Ukrainian Armed Forces use the 152mm 2A36 Giatsint-B, 2S5 Giatsint-S, 2S3 Akatsia, Msta-B, Msta-S artillery systems in this war.
Earlier, it became known that this package worth $1.3 billion will include a VAMPIRE system, which is designed to shoot down drones. The package will also include other anti-drone systems.
The VAMPIRE (Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment) missile system is based on the APKWS missile. VAMPIRE can be mounted on a variety of transport platforms, namely, on passenger SUVs. APKWS can hit aerial targets, which turns it into a short-range SAM when used in the VAMPIRE kit.
Additionally, an U.S. official said Ukraine will get a significant number of counter-drone systems made by Australia’s DroneShield Ltd alongside radars, sensors, and analysis systems.
DroneShield uses a tiered AI-based solution to both detect and target aerial threats. In particular, the company offers stationary Drone Sentry systems, which Ukraine is likely to receive. The systems allow for automated warning over long distances, protection, and monitoring of activity in local airspace.
