The Pentagon has ordered SMASH anti-drone rifle sights from Israeli company Smart Shooter to protect military bases and other critical facilities in the United States and abroad.

The three-year agreement, worth up to $150 million, was signed by Joint Interagency Task Force JIATF-401, Defence Blog reported.

The contract covers the supply of SMASH equipment, software and updates, as well as training and technical support.

The agreement was concluded under an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity arrangement, meaning that specific quantities, prices and delivery schedules will be determined through individual orders.

SMASH

SMASH is an intelligent fire-control system designed to automatically acquire and track targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and enemy personnel. The sight is mounted on the standard Picatinny rail of an assault rifle.

The system can track targets up to 250 meters away.

The sight supports three operating modes: a daytime mode using a holographic sight, a night mode with an image displayed on a screen, and a standard mode that allows firing through mechanical sights.

A single battery charge provides up to 72 hours of operation.

The SMASH family includes several versions:

  • SMASH 2000 — the basic version of the system.
  • SMASH 2000 Plus — a version with a ballistic computer for engaging small UAVs.
  • SMASH AD — equipped with a laser rangefinder and ballistic system.
  • SMASH 2000L — combines the capabilities of the previous variants in a single system.
  • SMASH 3000 — a significantly more compact and lighter version.
  • SMASH X4 — combines all the family’s capabilities and adds optical magnification.
  • SMASH 3500 — an improved version with enhanced capabilities.

The new order supports JIATF-401’s “Domestic Shield” program, which is aimed at protecting service members, military bases, and other critical facilities from small UAVs.

This is Smart Shooter’s second contract from JIATF-401, following an agreement announced in March 2026. According to the company, thousands of SMASH systems are already in use by U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps units.

In addition to the United States, SMASH anti-drone rifle sights are used by the Israeli military, the British Army, and other NATO countries. In particular, Germany uses them together with electronic warfare systems to protect critical facilities. The Japan Self-Defense Forces have also recently begun using these sighting systems to engage UAVs more effectively.
