Operators of FPV drones of the 80th Air Assault Brigade intercepted eight reconnaissance drones over the Kursk region.

The video of the interception was posted on the brigade’s official Telegram page.

The interception was carried out using conventional FPV drones without a special homing unit, requiring higher operator skill.

Thus, the paratroopers shot down eight additional drones, including Supercam, Zala, and Orlan-10.

The use of FPV drones as an air defense weapon is not new and has long been practiced by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

In September 2024, operators of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade`s interceptor drones shot down fifty enemy reconnaissance drones in the Toretsk sector quickly. A SIGNUM Strike Drones Company from the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, which is involved in defending this area, destroyed 49 Russian UAVs in a short time.

Based on the landscape and buildings shown in the video, the Ukrainian OSINT team CyberBoroshno carried out extensive work and geolocated the interception sites of all 49 drones in the video.

The lion’s share of the downed enemy UAVs was hit within a relatively short 20-kilometer-long stretch of frontline that stretches from Toretsk and Kostiantynivka.

The Drone Fall project, launched by the Come Back Alive Foundation in Ukraine, involves purchasing adapted FPV drones and creating and providing teams with pickups, communications, power, and night optics.

In December 2024, the Norwegian NGO Fritt Ukraina joined the Let the Drones Fall project of the Ukrainian Come Back Alive Foundation. Fritt Ukraina’s contribution of €800,000, or UAH 34,880,000, became the largest donor from abroad to the Let the Drones Fall project. For its part, the Come Back Alive Foundation raised the same amount for this joint project.

As of December 11, 2024, the project has accumulated UAH 161,557,850 and helped shoot down at least 278 enemy reconnaissance drones.

Traditional FPV drones with varying degrees of modification are used to intercept Russian UAVs.
