Patriot PAC-3 Missiles and S-200 Systems: Poland Reveals Lists of Military Aid to Ukraine

The Polish Ministry of Defense has released details regarding military aid to Ukraine, officially confirming for the first time the transfer of PAC-3 missiles to the Patriot air defense system and the delivery of S-200 systems.

During a special press conference, the Polish Ministry of Defense presented declassified data on military aid to Ukraine. The data covers both weapons transferred in 2022-2023 and specific items of aid provided starting in 2024.

At the same time, the exact number of weapons systems transferred has not been disclosed. As Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, emphasized, the government has begun the process of gradually declassifying decisions regarding military support for Ukraine.

The ministry also noted that the published list is incomplete, and additional information may be released in subsequent stages.

Specifically, in 2022-2023, Poland transferred T-72, PT-91, and Leopard 2A4 tanks, Rosomak armored personnel carriers, BRDM armored reconnaissance vehicles, and BWP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.

The aid package also included Krab and 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers, and 120-mm and 60-mm mortars.

In addition, Ukraine received MiG-29 fighter jets, Mi-24 attack helicopters, S-200 and S-125 surface-to-air missile systems, Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, Osa systems, ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns, missiles for the Kub air defense system, as well as other weapons, equipment, and ammunition. The total value of this aid is estimated at PLN 14.9 billion (approximately $3.97 billion).

It should be noted that the transfer of other planned Polish MiG-29s is currently on hold.

Since 2024, Poland has also supplied Ukraine with PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot air defense system, designed to intercept ballistic targets, as well as ScanEagle drones and ammunition, including for Soviet-era air defense systems.

The estimated value of military aid provided since 2024 amounted to PLN 1.55 billion (approximately $413 million).

The published list definitively confirmed the transfer of PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot systems to Ukraine, which had previously been the subject of political debate in Poland.

As noted by the Ministry of National Defense, the decision to transfer these missiles was made at the request of the NATO Secretary General, EUCOM, and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), following consultations with the countries operating the Patriot systems.

The Polish Ministry of Defense emphasized that the number of missiles transferred does not exceed the safe level of the country’s defense capability.

According to assessments by SACEUR and the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, this transfer did not negatively impact the capabilities of the Polish air defense system.
