North Korea to Build Memorial to Those Killed in War with Ukraine

On February 13, Kim Jong Un visited the construction site of the Memorial Hall of Military Feats in Foreign Military Operations.

This was reported by the publication Rodong Sinmun.

The North Korean dictator personally inspected the progress of the work, examined the sculptural panels, and gave instructions on the final design of the facility. The authorities involved units of the Korean People’s Army in the construction.

Pyongyang began actively transferring its units to Russia in October 2024. Initially, special forces of the 11th Corps of the Korean People’s Army, known as the ‘Storm Corps’ trained at training grounds in the Far East.

North Korea officially confirmed the deployment of its armed forces on April 28, 2025, citing the strategic partnership agreement with the Russian Federation.

According to South Korean and Western intelligence, the total number of North Korean troops in Russia has reached 15,000. Most of the forces are stationed in the Kursk region.

As of February 2026, North Korean troop losses in killed and wounded amount to approximately 6,000. Most of the soldiers were killed during counteroffensives in the Kursk region.
