Three more missions of criminal investigators from the Netherlands will assist the International Criminal Court in its investigation.
This is stated in the joint letter of the Heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Justice, which is published on the website of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.
“A team of investigators will visit (Ukraine) under the banner of the International Criminal Court three more times during this and next years,” the letter says.
The first mission will take place in the fall of 2022, the next two — in the spring and summer of 2023.
The team of investigators includes representatives of the Royal Military Police of the Netherlands and specialists from other defense departments. Representatives of other countries can also join the investigation, but this issue is still being resolved.
Special investigators will work only in the territories controlled by Ukraine. There are risks of missile strikes from Russia, and if the security situation changes, mission members may be recalled.
“Ministers note that they are aware of the risks. But the government also takes into account that the Netherlands does not want violations of international law and order to go unpunished. A forensic team can make an important contribution to this case,” the message emphasizes.
Recall that the United States will appoint a general who will be responsible for the military mission to support Ukraine and assign it its name.
