In Russia, a Mi-8 helicopter crashed and burned for the second time in a few days.

RFE/RL reported about this.

According to the Russian media, the incident occurred in the morning of December 19, during an attempt to land in the village of Takhtoyamsk in the Olsky district of the Magadan region.

It is reported that the Mi-8T helicopter crashed into a construction trailer, overturned on its side and burned completely on the landing site.

Three crew members managed to leave the cockpit before the fire started.

Some Russian media report at least one casualty as a result of the Mi-8T crash.

This multipurpose transport helicopter belonged to Polyar-Avia LLC.

Currently, the local transport prosecutor’s office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the air incident.

As previously reported, on December 16, a Mi-171 helicopter crashed during landing at Baikal Airport in Ulan-Ude. It was a Mi-171 intended for export.

After falling, the helicopter caught fire. There were no passengers on board, only three people of the crew, all of them died. The fire broke out on the taxiway, not affecting the runway.

The cause of the helicopter crash could have been a fire in the engine, another technical malfunction or pilot error.

According to the regional government, the crashed helicopter was manufactured at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant and was not in service. The Mi-171 helicopter was intended for export to China.
