U.S. defense company GM Defense has delivered its first components for PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles.
Lockheed Martin announced the delivery in a company statement.
The missile body components were manufactured and delivered just 22 days after the two companies signed the contract.
As part of the partnership, GM Defense used its in-house precision casting and machining capabilities to manufacture the components quickly.
Leveraging the commercial automotive industry helped reduce production times, which would normally take anywhere from several months to several years, and accelerate the delivery of air defense systems.
The Pentagon has signed seven-year agreements aimed at tripling the production of PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
The agreements are intended to significantly expand industrial capacity and accelerate interceptor production beyond standard manufacturing schedules.
