Latvian Intelligence Uncovers Russian Agent Spying on Military Facilities

The Latvian State Security Service has arrested a Russian agent who was spying on military facilities in the country.

The man was detained on August 27, but this information was only reported now.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had been passing on information to Russian intelligence services regarding the location, layout, and security systems of various military facilities in Latvia.

He also supplied details about the construction of new military sites, the training of Latvian troops, and the presence of NATO soldiers at specific military installations across the country.

According to information available to the Latvian State Security Service, the man also passed on other information to Russian intelligence that could be used against the security interests of Latvia and other Baltic countries.

Procedural actions were carried out at four locations in Riga and its surroundings connected with the suspect. The special services are currently conducting an in-depth investigation of the data carriers and documents seized during the searches. The suspect has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
