UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and President of France Emmanuel Macron discussed assistance to Ukraine during the G7 summit.

According to the British government, the parties agreed to provide more support for Ukraine in its war with the Russian invaders, Voice of America reports.

“They agreed this is a critical moment for the course of the conflict, and there is an opportunity to turn the tide in the war,” a Downing Street spokesperson said in a statement.

“President Macron praised the Prime Minister’s (Boris Johnson – Ed.) ongoing military support to Ukraine and the leaders agreed to step up this work,” the spokesperson added.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said on his Twitter page:

“We must support Ukraine to strengthen their hand in both the war and any future negotiations. President Emmanuel Macron and I agreed to step up our military support for Ukraine at this critical moment, and to enhance Anglo-French cooperation on defence and security,” Johnson said.

Citing the British government, Politico reports that Boris Johnson warned Emmanuel Macron that to settle the conflict in Ukraine now would only cause “enduring instability”.

According to the head of the British government, such a move would “give Putin license to manipulate both sovereign countries and international markets in perpetuity.”

As previously reported, the German government wants to hand over more 155-mm PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine to help defend it from Russian invasion.

Germany is in talks with the Netherlands and another European partner on the transfer of additional artillery to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to German dpa, Ukraine claims that it would take 18 howitzers to equip a full artillery division of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That means six more units are needed.

Berlin intends to fulfill the request if partners also join in. Germany could supply two or three more Panzerhaubitze 2000 ACS. So far, Ukraine has received seven PzH 2000s from Germany and five from the Netherlands.
