Italian Army Tests Ukrainian DevDroid Combat UGVs

The Italian Army tested the Ukrainian Droid TW 7.62 and Droid TW 12.7 combat unmanned ground vehicles developed by DevDroid.

The Ukrainian UGVs operated alongside the Italian ULISSE platform developed by ABET HTS. The robotic systems were used to support infantry during assaults on positions, evacuate wounded personnel, and advance further.

They also practiced cooperation with artillery and the coordination of multiple platforms within a single tactical scenario.

DevDroid specialists demonstrated the operation of the systems to Italian military personnel, including their interface and principles of use in conditions similar to combat.

During the tests, the possibility of integrating the Ukrainian UGVs with NATO’s situational awareness system was also assessed. In particular, the vehicles transmitted their coordinates and video feeds to the system, while the platforms were controlled via a tactical network.

“It’s important to us that Ukrainian robotic systems can operate alongside solutions developed by European partners. Such tests allow us to assess the interoperability of platforms in joint scenarios and move from technology demonstrations to practical industrial cooperation,” DevDroid noted.

Ukrainian and Italian systems successfully carried out joint tasks as part of a single scenario.

For DevDroid, the tests provided an opportunity to share with its partners the experience of using UGVs gained during the war.

The exercises were conducted as part of the partnership between DevDroid and ABET HTS. The companies have already signed a memorandum of cooperation and are preparing documents for the next stage of their collaboration.

Future plans include establishing a joint venture and deepening technological and manufacturing cooperation between the Ukrainian and Italian sides.

As Militarnyi previously reported, the Droid TW 7.62 has already been used in combat in Ukraine. During one engagement, the system helped repel a Russian assault by engaging enemy infantry and also destroyed two drones that were lying in ambush for Ukrainian troops.
