Ireland has approved the purchase of long-range radar systems from France.
The deal was signed with France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces and its defence procurement agency, the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA), The Journal reports.
Under the agreement, Ireland will receive five radars manufactured by Thales.
Thales produces a range of long-range radar systems, including the Ground Master family, such as the three-dimensional GM400 and GM400 Alpha radars, the SMART-L MM series, the mobile Master T systems, and the Sea Fire naval radars.
The first systems will be delivered next year, with the full radar network expected to be operational by the end of 2028.
The €300–500 million project will also include ground-based air defence systems with counter-drone capabilities, as well as naval radars.
In February, Ireland was reported to be planning to purchase French armored vehicles and artillery from KNDS France.
