Iraq Records First-Ever Shahed Drone Shot Down by Interceptor Drone

For the first time in Iraq, an interceptor drone has been documented destroying an Iranian Shahed attack UAV.

Baxtiyar Goran shared the video on the social media platform X.

According to him, the footage was taken near the city of Erbil in northern Iraq, where tensions are rising due to increased activity by pro-Iranian forces.

The released footage shows the interceptor drone approaching its target and striking it in midair.

Following the start of operations by the U.S. and Israel, Iran has stepped up attacks in regional countries that host American military bases.

Oil refineries, embassies, and government institutions have also come under attack. An additional factor in the escalation was Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Amid this, Ukrainian specialists in air defense and electronic warfare have been sent to the region as part of intergovernmental agreements.

Meanwhile, Iraq was not listed among the countries visited by the President of Ukraine, and there has been no report of Ukrainian specialists being sent there.

Therefore, the affiliation of the interceptor drone remains unknown.
