Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji said an intelligence cell had been detained whose members allegedly carried out explosions at Iraqi state facilities on behalf of Ukraine.

In an interview with Dijlah TV, the Iraqi official claimed that the detained individuals confessed to working for Ukraine, Mehr News Agency reported.

However, he immediately acknowledged that there was no evidence base for bringing official charges.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Iraqi side had provided no facts or evidence, and that al-Araji had effectively refuted his own allegations during the same television appearance.

Before the public statement, Iraq had not sent any notifications through diplomatic channels, and the Ukrainian side learned about the accusations from the live broadcast.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also noted that such unfounded and irresponsible statements contradict the principles of mutual respect and directly harm friendly relations between the two countries.

Ukrainian diplomats called on Iraqi officials to properly respond to the spread of disinformation and prevent state institutions from being used in the interests of third parties.
