IAEA Head Grossi: Temporary Truce Declared Around ZNPP

A local truce has been declared around Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to repair damaged power lines.

This is reported by the IAEA’s official page on X.

Repair work began after a four-week interruption of the plant’s external power supply. During this period, the staff used emergency diesel generators to maintain its operation.

According to the International Agency, the restoration of off-site external power supply is critical for nuclear safety, as it ensures the functioning of the reactor and spent fuel cooling systems, which were previously supported by diesel generators.

“Restoration of off-site power supply is critical for nuclear safety. Both parties have been working constructively with the IAEA to ensure the implementation of a comprehensive repair plan,” the IAEA said.

In its statement, the IAEA emphasized that both sides “cooperated constructively” during the implementation of the repair plan, but stressed the need for strict adherence to the agreements on the safety of repair teams.

The plant lost its connection to the grid on September 23, the tenth blackout since the start of the full-scale war and the longest one. After the blackout, seven emergency generators were operating at the site to provide power to critical systems.
