A ground robotic system of the 13th Khartiia Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine played a crucial role in saving the life of a wounded infantryman during a logistics mission.
The brigade’s press service shared a video of the operation on their official YouTube channel.
According to the brigade, the ground logistics drone “Tor-800” was conducting a cargo delivery mission in one of the sectors when operators were alerted to the presence of a wounded comrade nearby.
The infantryman suffered a serious leg injury. His condition was moderate, but the situation required immediate evacuation. As medical personnel later confirmed, a delay of even a few hours could have been fatal.
Traditional methods of evacuating the soldier were extremely difficult, as the distance to the evacuation point was over 13 kilometers, the terrain was challenging, and enemy drones were actively operating in the area. Therefore, the drone was assigned a new priority mission – evacuating the wounded soldier.
Although the drone had to navigate forest trails and dirt roads with the utmost caution, it successfully delivered the soldier to the medical evacuation point. The total distance the drone covered during this mission was 32 kilometers.
“This case is not an exception, but rather another confirmation of how the 13th Khartiia Brigade implements a strategy that prioritizes human life above all else. Thanks to high mobility, innovation, and the ability to make quick, unconventional decisions, the brigade demonstrates that even in conditions of high lethality and battlefield transparency, every soldier has a chance for rescue,” the brigade stated.
And this is truly not the first such case: in May, it was reported that the 13th Khartiia Brigade had successfully conducted an evacuation operation using a ground robotic system, having delivered a wounded soldier to a safe location 12 kilometers from the front line.
A joint operation by a UGV brigade unit and an operational support battalion took place in Khartiia’s area of responsibility north of Kharkiv.
The Tarhan wheeled robotic system evacuated a wounded soldier from zero line up to 12 kilometers from the front line, covering a distance of 24 kilometers.
“In my opinion, and in the opinion of many colleagues, the evacuation of wounded soldiers by ground robots is now a last resort. That is, if there are no other safer options for picking up the wounded, then a ground robot must go. This is still not the highest level of reliability. Every time such a mission is carried out, everyone is extremely tense,“ Mathematician, head of the UGV department of the Khartiia Brigade, shared.
Khartiia is one of the most advanced units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the use of UGVs. At the end of 2024, the brigade conducted its first fully robotic combat operation without human involvement.
