Germany may provide Ukraine with five PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system, but only if other countries also contribute.
The German Aid to Ukraine project reports, citing Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, that the transfer will go ahead if partner nations jointly fund and arrange the delivery of an additional 30 PAC-3 missiles for Ukraine.
Other details of the possible transfer, including its cost, have not been disclosed.
On January 28, it was reported that Germany currently does not have the capacity to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems.
It is known that Berlin has already transferred more than one-third of its own systems to Ukraine.
Further deliveries are currently impossible, as the Bundeswehr is awaiting replacements for the systems already supplied and must maintain its capacity to train personnel to operate and service the Patriot air defense systems.
Pistorius also acknowledged that the number of IRIS-T air defense systems delivered to Ukraine is insufficient given the growing intensity of Russian attacks.
Germany has already supplied Ukraine with nine systems of this type, while a total of 18 systems have been ordered.
It was recently announced that the UK Ministry of Defence will deliver 1,000 additional lightweight multirole missiles (LMM) to Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, said that urgent air defense support from the United Kingdom will amount to more than £500 million.
It was also reported that the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Sweden have allocated $500 million to purchase U.S.-made weapons for Ukraine.
The funds are intended to purchase missiles for Patriot air defense systems, artillery shells, and ammunition for F-16 fighter jets.
In addition, part of the financing will be allocated for spare parts needed to maintain and service the equipment.
