After months of debate, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

The German Der Spiegel reported about this.

According to Spiegel, it regards one company of Leopard 2A6 tanks (preliminarily – 14 tanks).

German tanks will allegedly arrive from the Bundeswehr stockpiles. In the medium and long term, other battle tanks from the manufacturer’s stockpiles can also be prepared for transfer.

Other allies, including those from Scandinavia, also want to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks. And finally, the German government may be ready to grant permission for the export of tanks that belong to other countries, for example, to Poland.

Germany’s decision was preceded by several days of intensive consultations with the allies, especially in Washington. Olaf Scholz always pointed that he only wanted to supply battle tanks together with other countries, such as the USA.

Recently, there have been reports of disagreements between Germany and the U.S., which have angered Olaf Scholz.

During this time, colleagues increased the pressure on Sholtz: government partners the Greens and the Free Democratic Party began to insist on the supply of battle tanks to Ukraine. The chancellor decided to provide Ukraine with Marder infantry fighting vehicles just recently.
