Germany is sharply accelerating the rearmament of the Bundeswehr by approving almost 50 billion euros for new defense procurement. The relevant decision was made by the Bundestag Budget Committee on December 17.
The funding covers 30 large projects that have undergone the parliamentary procedure of the so-called “25 million euro proposals” – a mechanism that paves the way for strategic contracts, hartpunkt reported.
In total, in 2025, Germany has already approved 103 defense procurements worth about 83 billion euros, which indicates a systematic revision of approaches to defense planning.
The key emphasis is on strengthening air and missile defense, including the expansion of the Patriot and ARROW systems, as well as additional purchases of IRIS-T SLM.
The Air Force also approved the purchase of air-to-air ammunition for Eurofighter fighters, which directly affects the combat readiness of the aviation.
In the maritime component, the Bundeswehr is preparing for the serial production of the TAURUS NEO cruise missile, the purchase of torpedoes for U212CD class submarines, and the deployment of the SPOCK satellite radar system.
The ground forces will receive additional PUMA infantry fighting vehicles, RCH 155 wheeled self-propelled artillery systems, EAGLE armored vehicles, as well as artillery and mortar systems.
Separately, a decision was made to continuously provide up to 460,000 military personnel with uniforms, personal and protective equipment, which indicates that the Bundeswehr is preparing for a long-term deployment.
The Bundeswehr has recently ordered a new batch of ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks.
