The Bundeswehr has placed an additional order with Rheinmetall for the supply of 120 mm tank ammunition.

The order includes extra combat and training rounds under the existing framework agreement. The new contract is valued at several hundred million euros.

In July 2023, the Bundeswehr renewed its framework agreement with Rheinmetall, raising its total value to about €4 billion.

The document provides for the delivery of several hundred thousand 120×570 mm combat and training rounds used by the Leopard 2 tank.

According to the terms of the agreement, deliveries will continue until the end of 2030. This will allow Germany to gradually replenish its stockpiles and ensure a stable supply of ammunition for its armored units.

As a reminder, in July, the Spanish company GDELS–Santa Bárbara Sistemas and the German defense giant Rheinmetall reached an agreement to resume production of 120 mm smoothbore guns in Spain.

The guns in the L44 (barrel length – 44 calibers) and L55 variants are installed on Leopard 2 tanks, which are in service with the Spanish Armed Forces as well as many other European countries.
