The Red Storm Bravo training operation, which lasted until September 27th, is coming to an end in Hamburg.

Under the leadership of the Regional Territorial Command Hamburg, about 500 soldiers practiced scenarios to protect logistics movements in the city’s port area.

Units from different regions of Germany are involved in the exercise, including the 92nd Armored Infantry Training Battalion from Munster, the 141st Supply Battalion from Neustadt am Rübenberge, and the 10th Transport Helicopter Regiment from Fassberg.

Local units are also participating, including the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College, a military hospital, and the Helmut Schmidt University.

This is the second such training operation after Red Storm Alpha, which took place last year. This time, civilian services – police, firefighters, and the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief – are actively involved in the training, with more than 300 people in total. The goal is to practice coordinated interaction between military and civilian agencies in a crisis.

Local authorities and private companies, including Airbus, shipbuilder Blohm + Voss, and logistics operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, also joined the exercise.

The practical scenario involves the rapid concentration of forces and equipment for a conditional redeployment to the Baltic region.

On Friday night, about 70 Bundeswehr military vehicles marched in a column through the city as part of a training episode.

The convoy was deliberately delayed by actors simulating a blockade, creating conditions as close to real as possible.

Additional tension was added by real protests by left-wing activists, which gathered up to 600 participants, although they took place outside the main training area.

In the area, Blohm + Voss practiced a mass casualty scenario and countering drone threats – at least one unidentified drone was spotted in the exercise area.

In the event of an escalation or defense mobilization, the port of Hamburg will play a key role as one of the important logistics hubs of the German Hub. It is through this port that troops and supplies will be moved to NATO’s eastern flank.
