Four saboteurs have been arrested in Poland. They were sending packages with explosives with the help of transportation companies.

This was reported by the Polish media outlet RFM24.

The Polish National Public Prosecutor’s Office reports that four individuals have been arrested for international sabotage and subversion. Two more identified offenders have been put on an international wanted list.

At the same time, measures are being taken to establish the full scope of persons involved in the activities of this group. This includes the cooperation with law enforcement agencies of other EU countries.

Sabotage

“The group’s activities consisted of acts of sabotage and subversion pertaining to the sending of parcels containing the camouflaged explosives and the hazardous materials that spontaneously combusted or detonated during land and air transportation to the European Union and the United Kingdom via courier companies,” prosecutor Katarzyna Kaluv-Yashevska stated in a press release.

The group’s goal was to establish a channel for transferring this type of cargo to the United States and Canada.

In addition to the four detained and arrested individuals, two more are wanted.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, a courier company truck burned down near Warsaw as a result of the group’s actions. Fires also broke out in a warehouse in the UK and at an airport in Germany.

As one of the examples of sabotage, the case that occurred in mid-July is cited. At that time, the saboteurs sent a package with a timer and a flammable substance from Vilnius. The plane narrowly avoided catching fire thanks to an unexpected two-hour delay, preventing the packages from entering the aircraft. Instead, the fire broke out in a warehouse at Leipzig Airport.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, investigators suspect that Russian intelligence agencies are behind the saboteurs’ actions.

In late October, Poland’s Foreign Minister accused Russia of attempting to carry out a sabotage in the country. In this regard, Radoslaw Sikorski announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan.

“The arrested potential saboteur confessed that it had been the Russian special services that had ordered him to commit arson in Wroclaw. We have other similar arson attacks across Europe and are aware of Russia’s further plans,” the minister stated.
