A fire has been detected on the grounds of the Zaliv Shipbuilding Yard in occupied Kerch.
The Crimean Wind monitoring group reported this, citing satellite imagery.
Two fire hotspots are visible in the plant’s harbor area, according to NASA’s FIRMS (Fire Information for Resource Management System) active fire monitoring satellite.
The fire may indicate that ships or vessels were hit.
On the night before the attack, residents of Kerch reported a series of explosions and gunfire. A strong smell of smoke was also noticeable in various parts of the city.
Witnesses posted reports about the activity of air defense systems and sounds resembling the operation of weapons used to engage aerial targets.
There have been no official comments regarding the cause of the incident so far.
The Zaliv Shipbuilding Yard is one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises in occupied Crimea.
After the start of the Russian occupation, it became heavily involved in the implementation of Russian military programs.
Since 2020, the shipyard has been constructing two Project 23900 universal amphibious assault ships: Ivan Rogov and Mitrofan Moskalenko.
These vessels are considered among the largest new surface warships currently being built for the Russian Navy.
Earlier satellite images had already shown the nearly completed hull of the amphibious assault ship Ivan Rogov inside the shipyard’s dry dock, where it was under construction.
