A fire broke out at a ZVS Holding facility in Slovakia that produces artillery ammunition.
Novinky reported that the fire at the production facility was discovered at 12:00.
ZVS specializes in developing, producing, and selling ammunition.
According to a representative of the MSM Group, which owns the holding company, the fire broke out on the roof of the building during repair work carried out by an external contractor.
All employees were immediately evacuated, and no one was injured. The fire was contained within two hours in cooperation with firefighters.
Production at the affected facility was temporarily suspended following the incident.
Thick black smoke was visible from several parts of the city. City authorities advised residents to limit time outdoors because of the prolonged firefighting efforts.
“We ask residents to stay away from the site of the fire and follow the instructions of emergency responders,” the city authorities urged.
Last year, ZVS Holding signed a framework agreement with the Slovak Ministry of Defense to supply ammunition to EU member states, valued at up to €58 billion.
