Ukrainian strike drones hit the Zuivska Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in the town of Zuhres, part of the Khartsyzk urban community.
Serhii Sternenko, civic activist and advisor to the Minister of Defense, reported this information.
The attack took place during the night of June 6–7, resulting in a fire on the power plant’s premises (coordinates: 48.03289015175435, 38.28805646332996).
The strike on the power plant is also confirmed by photos and videos from local residents.
In addition, NASA FIRMS detected a fire hotspot near the power plant at the 330 kV substation close to the village of Hirne.
The fire was detected at 03:26 a.m. at coordinates 48.066177, 38.214744.
The Zuivska Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest and most powerful thermal power plants in the east of Ukraine.
The power plant has an installed generating capacity of 1,245 MW. It consists of four generating units: three with a capacity of 300 MW each and one upgraded unit with a capacity of 325 MW.
In March 2017, following the forced “nationalization” of assets by militants of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR), DTEK lost full control of the facility. Since then, Russian authorities have been operating the power plant.
Militarnyi previously reported that an oil depot in the temporarily occupied city of Makiivka, a suburb of Donetsk, caught fire following a drone attack by Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
The strike on the facility took place during the night of March 1. Shortly beforehand, witnesses had reported drones flying over the city.
Local residents recorded footage showing a large blaze and a towering column of black smoke visible from a considerable distance, confirming that the oil depot had been hit.
