Debris from an unidentified drone was discovered on Romanian territory near the settlement of Grindu in Tulcea County.

The find was recorded on November 11, about five kilometers from the border with Ukraine, DW reports.

Romania’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed the incident, stating that due to unfavorable weather conditions, it was not possible to promptly scramble fighter jets for monitoring or interception.

At the crash site, specialists are currently working to collect debris and determine the drone’s origin. Official sources have not specified whether the drone belonged to Russia, but the incident occurred amid a large-scale attack on southern Ukraine.

According to Reuters, on Tuesday night, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian ports on the Danube, including Izmail. The Danube River serves as a natural border between Ukraine and Romania, increasing the risk of airspace violations.

Poland and Romania are deploying a new weapons system to defend against Russian drones after a series of airspace incursions into NATO territory in recent months, which have exposed the alliance’s vulnerabilities and put Europe on edge. Photo credits: AP

The authorities of the Odesa region had earlier reported an attack on the region’s energy and railway infrastructure.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported the launch of 119 drones on the night of November 11, targeting frontline areas and the southern part of the country.
