Drone Attack Halts Operations at Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery

The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region.

The region’s governor, Yury Slyusar, confirmed that the refinery was damaged in the attack. The OSINT community Exilenova+ also published video footage showing explosions at the facility.

According to Slyusar, Russian air defenses shot down 50 Ukrainian drones over the region. Despite this, the refinery was damaged and has temporarily suspended operations.

“Following the drone attack, the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery was damaged. The facility has temporarily suspended operations,” Slyusar said.

The Novoshakhtinsk refinery has a designed processing capacity of around 7.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year, equivalent to approximately 112,000–115,000 barrels per day. However, some sources cite a capacity of 5.6–7.5 million tonnes, depending on the estimate.

The refinery began operations in 2009. It was one of the first major oil refineries to be built in Russia in a long period.

On August 25, it was already reported that the Novoshakhtinsk refinery had halted operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones.
