Service members of the Tymur Special Unit of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (DIU) neutralized two groups of Russian special forces in the Zaporizhzhia sector.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence reported the operation.

One Russian soldier was also captured during the operation.

DIU did not specify the size of the Russian groups, the number of Russian troops killed or wounded, or the exact location of the operation.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the composition of the Russian groups and their movement routes were identified through intelligence work, including information obtained from within the enemy’s ranks, and the use of technical intelligence assets.

Based on the information gathered, fighters from the Tymur Special Unit organized an ambush to intercept the Russian special forces. After detecting the enemy, Ukrainian intelligence officers carried out drone strikes and cleared the area.

The Russian troops belonged to the 10th Separate Guards Special Purpose Brigade of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

The brigade is a regular Russian military intelligence formation. According to DIU, its personnel have taken part in Russia’s wars against Georgia and Ukraine, as well as its military campaign in Syria.

The presence of personnel from the brigade in occupied Ukrainian territory was documented as early as 2014-2015.

DIU Operations in the Zaporizhzhia Sector

According to the latest figures from DIU, its fighters have killed 448 Russian troops and captured 85 during operations in the Zaporizhzhia sector.

In March, DIU units, working with other forces, halted Russian advances within their area of responsibility in the Zaporizhzhia sector. More than 300 Russian troops were reported neutralized, and 39 were captured.

In particular, fighters from the Himera unit, which is part of the Tymur Special Unit, conducted clearing operations in residential buildings occupied by Russian troops and captured Russian soldiers.

In June, the Russian Volunteer Corps, which operates as part of the Tymur Special Unit, reported liberating 9 square kilometers of territory in the Zaporizhzhia sector. The unit said at the time that it had killed 80 Russian troops and captured another 24.
