Command of Support Forces of AFU: Russia Used Toxic Chemicals Against Armed Forces of Ukraine Almost 12 Thousand Times

Over the entire period of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, almost 12 thousand cases of use of toxic chemicals have been recorded.

During 2025, 6,540 such cases were documented, which indicates the systemic nature of these actions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

The Russian Federation uses chemical agents alongside conventional firepower.

These are special ammunition with irritant substances.

The most commonly used gas grenades are K-51 and RG-VO with CS and CN tear gases.

These grenades are classified as riot control devices and are not intended for combat use.

The attacks are recorded by the CBRN units of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the samples are submitted for examination.

The use of such substances in warfare is prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention.

CS and CN gases can only be used by law enforcement in peacetime under strict restrictions.

In combat conditions, they are illegal and pose a threat to the life and health of soldiers.

The highest number of chemical attacks in 2025 was recorded in April – 894 cases, according to the Command of the Armed Forces Support Forces.

As a reminder, the one-of-a-kind 704th CBRN Protection Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has recently been officially expanded to the level of a separate brigade (704th CBRN Protection Brigade).
