A Type 05 (ZBD-05) amphibious infantry fighting vehicle equipped with the HJ-10 anti-tank missile system has been spotted in China.
Armored vehicle researcher Andriy Tarasenko shared the pictures of the equipment on his Telegram channel.
It’s the first public appearance of the Type 05 fitted with such a weapon system. Previously, the HJ-10 ATGM had been mounted on the chassis of the ZBD-04A land infantry fighting vehicle, the Type 08 armored personnel carrier, trucks, and other army armored vehicles.
The Type 05 chassis has already served as the basis for a series of armored vehicles, ranging from the ZLT-05 amphibious light tank to the GSL132 barrier vehicle.
The HJ-10 is a next-generation Chinese anti-tank missile system designed to engage heavily armored targets at long distances.
Developed by NORINCO Corporation, the HJ-10 is widely used by the Chinese Armed Forces. Its primary role is to neutralize modern main battle tanks, armored vehicles, and other fortified enemy positions.
The HJ-10 uses missiles equipped with tandem cumulative warheads, allowing it to effectively penetrate both dynamic and passive armor protection.
Its target engagement range extends up to 10 kilometers, and it uses either a laser target illumination system or an active optoelectronic homing head for guidance.
The photos show a configuration with 12 transport-launch containers and a telescopic mast equipped with an optoelectronic system.
A mechanical or system stabilizer is likely incorporated into the optical station to counteract the swaying of the combat vehicle on the water.
The addition of the long-range ATGM to the Type 05 chassis complements the vehicle family. Various versions of this platform have already been developed, including light tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, ambulances, barrier vehicles, engineer vehicles, and command vehicles.
It can be assumed that in the near future, short-range air defense systems, such as a lightweight version of the Type 625E, may also be installed on this vehicle.
Recently, prototypes of tracked combat vehicles, likely designed for airborne operations, were spotted in China.
