Belarus Begins Building Up Artillery Positions Near Border With Ukraine

According to Ukrainian intelligence, roads leading into Ukrainian territory are being built and artillery positions are being established in the Belarusian border region.

This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We believe that Russia will once again attempt to drag Belarus into its war. I have instructed the relevant channels to warn the de facto leadership of Belarus about Ukraine’s readiness to defend its land and independence. The nature and consequences of recent events in Venezuela should deter the Belarusian leadership from making mistakes,” he stated.

According to him, intelligence is also recording attempts by the occupying forces to regroup their troops—most likely to compensate for a shortage of personnel.

“In this regard, it is becoming increasingly clear why the activity of the armed forces has increased on the territory of Belarus,” he emphasized.

At the same time, although on April 17, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed a decree on the conscription of reserve officers into military service in 2026, such measures are carried out annually on a scheduled basis.

In late March, it became known that Russia wants to deploy new base stations in Belarus for controlling Shahed-type strike drones. According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, a total of four such stations have been identified on Belarusian territory.

It is known that Russia actively uses Belarusian civilian infrastructure, specifically cellular towers on Belarusian territory, to route its Shahed drones. In this way, the Russians ensured a stable signal to strike targets located near Ukraine’s northern and western borders, as well as flying into the territory of NATO countries.
