Assassination Attempt on Khartia Commander Ihor Obolenskyi: Attacker Detained

The President of Ukraine reported an assassination attempt on Ihor Obolenskyi, commander of the 2nd Khartia Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky wrote about this on his social media accounts.

According to him, the attacker and his accomplice have already been detained, and the necessary legal proceedings are underway.

“There was a report from Oleksandr Poklad regarding this. We will definitely respond to this attempt to strike at Ukraine and a Ukrainian commander. I thanked Ihor for his service and wished him well,” the President stated.

The publication Ukrainska Pravda released footage of the detainee.

According to UP sources, the attacker’s weapon failed to fire. The detainee approached the commander in Kharkiv from behind.

Ihor ‘Kornet’ Obolenskyi is a colonel in the National Guard of Ukraine and commander of the National Guard’s 2nd Khartia Corps. Over the course of more than ten years of military service, he has participated in combat operations since 2014, commanded National Guard units, and, following the start of the full-scale invasion, helped establish Khartia.
