The planes that will serve as Air Force One for the US president will receive a color scheme chosen by Donald Trump.
The US Air Force has officially confirmed a return to a design featuring red, white, gold, and dark blue, according to CNN. Trump proposed this scheme during his first term, but the Biden administration later canceled it.
For more than 60 years, since the Kennedy administration, presidential aircraft have had a traditional blue-and-white color scheme. The change to darker shades sparked much debate, as critics saw it as an attempt to replicate the colors of Donald Trump’s personal Boeing 757.
Earlier, in 2022, the Biden administration rejected this livery option, citing technical reasons and the cost of the work.
US Air Force experts stated that the use of dark blue on the lower part of the fuselage could lead to overheating of certain components. Due to these concerns, an alternative design was presented in 2023, which almost completely replicated the classic style.
The Air Force plans to apply a new livery to two Boeing 747s (VC-25B), which Boeing is currently working on. This livery will also be applied to a Boeing 747 donated by Qatar, which will be refitted for the President’s needs on Trump’s orders. The “Qatari” jet is expected to take to the skies in its new form as early as this summer.
The changes will affect not only the main long-range aircraft, but also the smaller C-32s (the military version of the Boeing 757). Four such aircraft will be repainted during scheduled maintenance. An Air Force spokesman confirmed that the first C-32 has already been painted and is expected to be handed over to the military within the next few months.
