For the first time, two Primoco UAVs carried out autonomous missions in real time using the MARS Autonomy software suite.
This was announced by Airbus during the ILA Berlin 2026 airshow.
MARS Autonomy is software that coordinates the interaction of multiple platforms in real time. “In a real-world operation, the operator’s command is very simple,” notes Thomas Schmitt, a manager at Airbus Defence and Space:
“Do locate all surface-to-air missile systems in a specified area, do transmit their coordinates and video feed. After that, the Airbus system autonomously distributes tasks among the platforms, which are connected into a single network.”
Instead of each drone executing separate commands from the operator, the drone swarm operates as a single system, utilizing shared distributed intelligence.
During the demonstration flight, the UAVs carried out two autonomous missions: command-and-control multifunctional surveillance and rapid-response surveillance.
The system autonomously performs non-critical operations, while the operator maintains constant control over the mission and the ability to intervene if necessary.
The initial implementation of the MARS Autonomy software on the Primoco One 150 UAV is scheduled for later this year.

The Primoco One 150 UAV has a maximum takeoff weight of 150 kg, a flight duration of up to 15 hours, a control range from the ground station of up to 200 km, and a ferry range of up to 2,000 km.
Currently, testing is underway of the One 150 UAV, equipped with miniature air-to-air missiles.
