Aid from Germany: 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks and artillery ammunition

The new aid package from Germany includes Leopard 1A5 tanks, artillery ammunition, automotive equipment and radars.

The list of the provided military aid has been updated on the website of the German government.

In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine received machine guns for arming tanks and armored vehicles.

The updated list of German aid includes 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks. These are likely the tanks that need to be repaired before being sent to Ukraine, or the ones to be used for training of the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine was also given 20 MG3 machine guns for arming Leopard 2 tanks, Marder IFVs and Pionierpanzer Dachs.

In addition, the supply contains 1,305 rounds 155mm ammunition and 2,064 rounds 155mm smoke ammunition.

One bridge system and 12 trailers were also transferred.

Moreover, Ukraine received 10 ground surveillance radars and four border protection vehicles and 16 Zetros trucks. 100,000 individual first-aid kits were also handed over.

It also regards the allocation of 80 RQ-35 HEIDRUN reconnaissance drones to Ukraine. Before receiving these UAVs, Ukrainians will undergo appropriate training.

The day before, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the transfer of weapons to Ukraine by 2027. At a press conference on July 14, Olaf Scholz announced the transfer of weapons to Ukraine in the amount of $19 billion.

The Chancellor noted that this number started after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He also specified that the amount of $19 billion included only the aid provided by Germany and did not include other funds and organizations.

Besides, during the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11, 2023, Olaf Scholz and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced a new $770 million aid package. Ukraine will receive two launchers for the Patriot SAM system, 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks and five Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles.
