The wreckage of a Russian drone similar to Shahed (Geran-2) was found 8 kilometers from the large Romanian city of Brăila, which is located more than 20 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The Ministry of National Defense of Romania announced this.

“The Ministry of National Defense is investigating the incident together with specialized structures of the national defense, public order and national security system on March 29, 2024, in accordance with specific operational procedures,” the statement said.

The wreckage of the drone was reportedly found on agricultural land on an island on the Danube River.

The authorities received a report of a drone crash on the evening of March 28 at around 9:45 p.m. After that, law enforcement officers quickly cordoned off the area. Witnesses say that a loud explosion was heard when the drone crashed.

As a result of the drone’s detonation, a 4-meter-diameter crater was formed.

In December 2023, Militarnyi reported that a Russian drone crashed in Romania.

F-16s of the Romanian Air Force from the RoAF 86th Air Base and Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft of the German Air Force from the RoAF57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base were monitoring the national airspace.

The Romanian Armed Forces’ surveillance radar indicated a potential unauthorized violation of national airspace by detecting a low-altitude signal on one of the routes leading to the commune Grindu in Tulcea County.

Based on this information, mixed teams from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were dispatched to the area and reported in the morning that a 1.5-meter-deep crater had formed as a result of the drone crash.

A similar situation occurred on October 12, 2023. One of Russia’s loitering munitions had hit Romanian territory during Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

According to the website of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, field teams reported finding a drone crater about 3 km west of Plaura at about 5:00 a.m.
