A Replacement for Chinese Mavics: Vyriy Industries Unveils Slavic Drone for the First Time

Ukrainian company Vyriy Industries has presented its new Slavic tactical reconnaissance drone and disclosed its specifications.

The drone was developed as a domestic alternative to Chinese quadcopters, the company shared with Militarnyi.

The developers retained the control logic familiar to DJI Mavic operators. Automated altitude and position hold, as well as automatic return-to-home and landing, let service members learn the new platform quickly without lengthy retraining.

The new UAV is equipped with a 40,000 mAh Solid-State battery, providing up to 1.5 hours of flight time.

“Our main task now is to provide the military with a specialized platform that can fly longer and farther, allowing crews to operate farther from the line of contact. That is why we began developing Slavic,” Oleksii Babenko, founder and CEO of Vyriy Industries, stated.

The system has a tactical operating range of up to 30 km, allowing reconnaissance of the forward edge while keeping operators at a relatively safe distance.

The drone can perform missions in environments without satellite navigation signals. For spatial positioning, Slavic uses an optical positioning system.

The onboard communications system operates across a wide frequency range. This allows operators to select the least congested channel and ensures stable operation in difficult terrain.

For surveillance, the drone is equipped with a 2K daytime digital camera (2560 × 1440) mounted on a three-axis stabilized gimbal. The optics provide 10× optical zoom and 30× hybrid zoom.

It is supplied as an out-of-the-box system and requires no field modifications. The standard controller supports integration with the DELTA and Kropyva situational awareness systems and enables video streaming to the VEZHA app.

Slavic has successfully completed its first combat trials with seven Ukrainian Defense Forces units. The company’s specialists gathered feedback from the crews to further improve the platform.

The team is also working on thermal imaging modules for nighttime reconnaissance and a drone variant designed to serve as a relay. At the same time, Vyriy Industries is preparing the platform for scaled-up serial production and delivery to the military.
