A powerful explosion damaged the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Russian Federation

A powerful explosion took place on the territory of the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant in the Moscow Region.

Local Russian media reported on this.

Around 11 a.m. in the city of Sergiyev Posad, a strong explosion blasted out, over which a large smoke “mushroom” was formed.

According to preliminary information, the cause was detonation in the pyrotechnics warehouses, which were located in rented premises on the territory of the optical-mechanical plant.

Currently, at least 25 victims are reported. Nearby residential buildings were also damaged.

Employees of the plant announce the evacuation of workers. According to eyewitnesses, the plant was seriously damaged by the explosion.

According to public information, the company is involved in supplying Russian state defense orders. It specializes in the production of aviation sights, thermal imagers and thermal imaging guidance systems, and surveillance tools.

The company’s range of military products also includes scopes, binoculars, and night vision monoculars.

On the territory near the detonation site, local residents find details of high-explosive artillery shells.

Visually, the ammunition body in the video can be identified as an element of a 3VOF39 152mm projectile for the Soviet Giacint guns.

Possible assumptions that the hull serves as an element of the Krasnopol 152mm laser-guided artillery weapon system, the guidance system for which could be manufactured at the plant, do not correspond to reality.

Since, the latter has characteristic structural differences, which were not noticed on the debris from the video.
