Ukraine returned 95 prisoners of war, including soldiers from Mariupol, Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Zmiiny (Snake) Island and Bakhmut.

The list of liberated soldiers includes the military of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, and Border Guards.

“Among them are 93 privates and sergeants, and two officers. In particular, captives from Mariupol, Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Zmiiny Island, Bakhmut, as well as defenders of Azovstal are going to their families,” said Andrii Yermak.

Ukraine also managed to return from Russian captivity the participants of the special operation, who flew by helicopter to Azovstal plant in Mariupol, which was surrounded by Russian troops.

Yermak noted that many released Ukrainian defenders stayed in captivity being wounded.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that they also managed to return the defenders, who were in captivity in the Wagner PMC and the Chechen Akhmat unit, which is part of the National Guard of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, the headquarters added that among the released Ukrainians, three had the missing in action status.

“This time, four military sailors, 11 border guards, 29 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine, and 51 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including 15 soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces, were freed from captivity. All those freed are men,” the statement said.

Of the military that Ukraine returned this time, 27 were defending the Donetsk direction.

Defenders of the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Luhansk and Sumy directions are also among the released.

As previously reported, the Ukrainian Defense Forces took Russian prisoners of war in several directions. They succeeded in capturing POWs due to successful offensive actions on Russian positions.
