At Least Nine Service Members Killed During Military Exercises in Kazakhstan

At least nine service members were killed in the Mangistau Region of Kazakhstan during naval exercises on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

This was reported by Tengrinews, citing the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The incident occurred while units of the Kazakhstani Navy were carrying out a combat training exercise.

Due to a sudden deterioration in weather conditions and strong winds, 19 servicemen were swept out to sea by a wave.

According to preliminary data, the deaths of nine Kazakhstani servicemen have been confirmed.

Rescuers have already managed to save three people, one of whom was urgently hospitalized.

A search-and-rescue operation is currently underway involving forces from the Navy, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Aviation, and a special commission from the Ministry of Defense, led by Minister Dauren Kosanov, has been dispatched to the scene.
