80% of the artillery shells ordered for Ukraine’s Defense Forces are now being produced domestically.
Arsen Zhumadilov, head of Ukraine’s Defence Procurement Agency, announced this during the agency’s report on its performance in the first half of 2026. A Militarnyi correspondent attended the briefing.
Most of the domestically produced shells are long-range 155 mm rounds.
“We are currently procuring mainly long-range 155 mm artillery shells, and 80% of them are supplied by Ukrainian manufacturers,” said the head of the Defence Procurement Agency.
In April, a controversy erupted after Ukrainian Armor claimed that the agency was awarding contracts primarily to the lowest bidders, including manufacturers and suppliers that had previously failed to meet their obligations.

The Defence Procurement Agency said these claims were untrue and that the procurement process was still underway at the time.
The competitive tender for 155 mm ammunition also helped save 16% of the allocated funds.
