The 422nd Unmanned Systems Regiment ‘LUFTWAFFE’ of the 17th Army Corps struck a Russian 9K515 Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system.

The unit shared footage of the operation on its social media.

According to OSINT analyst imi, the system was spotted by a drone near Melitopol on the E58 highway between the villages of Chekhohrad and Udachne.

The video shows the drone identifying a column of vehicles, passing an escort car and two trucks from a mobile fire group equipped with ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns.

As it closed in on the rocket system, the drone descended and hit the launcher area.

The 9K515 Tornado-S is a Russian modernized multiple launch rocket system based on the 9K58 Smerch (300 mm caliber), designed to engage targets at long ranges.

The system is equipped with an automated fire control system, which enables the crew to perform georeferencing (position fixing) and aim the launchers directly from the vehicle’s cabin.

The key difference between this system and its Soviet predecessor is its use of guided rockets equipped with satellite-based (GLONASS) navigation.

These rockets have a maximum range of up to 120 km, and each rocket in a salvo can be programmed with individual target coordinates.

In early April, the 422nd Regiment also struck two locomotives in the southern sector.

At that time, a fixed-wing FPV drone hit the first locomotive directly while it was moving.

Later, a second drone of the same type located and struck another rail vehicle with targeting adjustments provided by a reconnaissance UAV.
