Strike From Over 3,300 km Away: Ukrainian Drones Hit a Gas Treatment Unit at the Novy Urengoy Condensate Processing Plant

The Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted a gas treatment unit used for deethanization at the Novy Urengoy Condensate Processing Plant (ZPKT) on September 9.

The OSINT project CyberBoroshno published information about the damaged facility.

The unit processes gases released during the deethanization of unstable gas condensate. These gases contain ethane, an important feedstock for producing ethylene and polyethylene.

The processed gases are intended for the Novy Urengoy Gas Chemical Facility, which has a design capacity of up to 400,000 metric tons of low-density polyethylene per year. Damage to the plant could disrupt raw material supply and affect operations in this production chain.

The Novy Urengoy Gas Processing Facility is owned by Gazprom Processing and is one of the region’s key gas condensate infrastructure facilities. The facility’s total design capacity is approximately 19.5 million metric tons of raw materials per year.

This strike was the farthest from Ukraine’s state border since the start of the full-scale invasion. The previous record was set in July 2026, when a modernized FP-1 struck the Omsk Oil Refinery at a distance of about 2,500 km.

The Ukrainian company Fire Point reported its involvement in the attack. It is believed the company’s FP-1 long-range strike drone was used to strike the facility.
