Range Up to 600 km: Sudan Presents Safaroog Loitering Munition

The Sudanese Military Industrial Corporation (MIC) has presented a new loitering munition called Safaroog.

At the IDEF exhibition, Janes learned that the drone is already in service in Sudan and is also attracting interest from potential buyers in the Middle East.

The Safaroog is a long-range strike drone. It is 2.88 meters long, 0.91 meters high, and has a wingspan of 3.3 meters.

The device is equipped with a 342 cubic centimeter gasoline engine that rotates a twin-blade pusher propeller.

Thanks to this, it can reach a cruising speed of 160 km/h and a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Depending on the configuration, the flight range is between 300 and 600 kilometers, and the duration of stay in the air is from 2.5 to 4.5 hours.

The cruising altitude of the UAV is 3048 meters, and the maximum altitude (ceiling) is 4572 meters.

The maximum takeoff weight of the vehicle is 120 kg. In this case, it can carry up to 40 kg of payload with 16 liters of fuel, or 30 kg with 25 liters, or 20 kg with a full tank of 40 liters.

There are several options for launching Safaroog: using a catapult (for light loads) or a pneumatic launcher.

The UAV is equipped with a modern SNAP-5 autopilot based on artificial intelligence, as well as GNSS/INS navigation systems and an algorithm for countering electronic jamming.

The control range is up to 600 kilometers, which allows the loitering munition to be used in the enemy’s deep rear.

In 2013, Belarus supplied Sudan with 12 Su-24M frontline bombers.
